East Preston Beach Clean 12 (very bottom of Sea Road, EP, BN16 1PB)

Second of this year's twice-yearly Beach Cleans, sprucing up East Preston's beaches at the end of the summer.

Most equipment is supplied but if you have any of your own you wish to use that is fine.

Registration is essential to ensure you are covered by the council's insurance. Pre report to the very bottom of Sea Road at the beginning of your stint. Partial pre-registration is available by emailing Alison on epparishcouncil3@btconnect.com.

Talk on George Bernard Shaw (Mill Road, Arundel, BN18 9PA)

'Playing the Clown' is an homage to the man who got Brian Freeland involved in theatrical production. A one-man-show, with furniture, it tells the life story of Shaw with humour and with affection.

Gardeners’ Question Time (Conservative Hall, East Preston)

If gardening is your hobby, do come to East Preston and Kingston Horticultural Society’s Gardeners’ Question Time. This gives you an opportunity to ask the expert, Michael Harwood from Ferring Nurseries, for advice on your gardening problems. Two halls selling vintage memorabilia including ceramics, glass, silver, art deco and art nouveau, jewellery and postcards. There will be a café set up throughout the day serving home-made cakes, pastries, coffee, tea and soft drinks and a raffle. Admission £1. Organised by the East Preston Festival Committee.

60s Themed Charity Evening (East Preston Village Hall)

On 20th October 2018 there will be a 1960’s themed charity fund raising evening in East Preston Village Hall.

The event will include live music, Pizza and Salad, a 60’s quiz and prizes for the best 60’s costumes. The band 60+ are giving their services free of charge.

It is hoped to raise over £1000 to be split evenly between the three charities: Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) Dreamland Mission Hospital (DMH) Surfers Against Sewage (SAS)

Tickets cost £12 and are available from The Seaview Stores, East Preston.

Celebrating Halloween with Abba (New The New School Hall, EP Junior School, St Mary's Drive Entrance BN17 1EZ)

Enjoy a bewitching evening of singing and dancing to everyone’s favourite Abba songs. Doors open at 7.30pm. Bring your own wine, beer and nibbles. Dressing up is optional (for Halloween or in 1980s style) and you can carve a pumpkin lantern to decorate your table - the best will win a prize. Tickets at £10 are on sale from 17th September at Seaview Stores and Just Because … both in Sea Road, East Preston. Organised by the East Preston Festival Committee.

East Preston Christmas Celebrations (Sea Road, East Preston)

This is a day to celebrate Christmas. Starting at noon with local businesses getting together to promote what they do, stalls inside the village hall and entertainment in the Conservative Hall. We have a funfair, stalls outside and activities on the village green. Fun for children includes a visiting Father Christmas, face painting and lantern making. Cafes and bars will be open offering sumptuous delights all day and with some, into the evening. We aim to have a procession around 4.45pm with children and Father Christmas taking the lanterns from the north end of the village to the south. There will be carol singing by the village green and a finale firework display. Hope to see you there.

Bygone Sussex: the photographs of George Garland and John Fletcher – a talk by Nichola Court (Conservative Hall, Sea Rd, East Preston BN16 1JN)

Nichola Court of West Sussex Record Office bases her talk on the work of these two photographers. Garland was most interested in recording countryside traditions and he worked from 1920 to 1978. Fletcher recorded old buildings that were at risk of demolition and worked from 1880 to 1915. Together they provide a description of the recent past of Sussex. All welcome. Visitors pay £3 for entry (pay at the door).
